As most of you know, I currently work at The Daily Advance, a small town newspaper covering a few counties in Northeastern North Carolina. I absolutely love my day job! So recently, when I was working on a blog for the website I decided to send it in to my editor and see if he would like to use it.
I have written for the paper before, doing work on the entertainment pages, but I have not written a column for them since 2001. No, I haven't worked there all this time! I actually worked for the paper in 2000-2001 and then again beginning in 2008 to present day.
I received the proof for my column yesterday, showing me that it would be running this Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010 on page C-3. I also warned my teenage girls about the impending column, since it is all about how to deal with unruly, hard-headed teenagers!
That was the good news this week. The not so good news was that my writing partner and I received our first rejection letter from a literary agency. We are taking our time with the process, researching agents who we feel would best represent us, and then submitting, one at a time, to said agents in the hopes that one will eventually like what he or she sees. We have found another agent, who we feel will be a great match for us and our books. A new query letter and a couple sample chapters are heading out to her this week, so wish us lots of luck!
We have had such great feedback on the short stories we have posted, that I wanted to thank everyone for stopping by reading our stuff, and taking the time to write or call to let us know what you thought. Also, we would both like to thank the few people who have read our completed book, pointed out mistakes, and grumbled to us about our cliffhanger ending and how we need to hurry up and finish book two. We appreciate everybody's input and thank you all for helping us make this an amazing experience!
