Today in Quarantine Part 4

Today has been a good day.

Things haven't been easy lately, but today I decided to get dressed. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but I've been basically living in t-shirts and boxers since we've been stuck in the house constantly. In my head, it made sense to select my clothing for comfort rather than appearance because I wasn't leaving the house anyways. For a while, that was fine but today, I needed to get dressed.

I didn't want to get dressed, don't get me wrong. I did not wake up with more energy or motivation to better myself today. I made myself get dressed, and I hated it.

Reluctantly, I slipped into my favorite pair of jeans, a cute, comfortable top, and a slip-on pair of Converse. I did my hair; I even put on some mascara and perfume. We had run out of a few important grocery staples, so I knew I was going to have to push past my anxiety long enough to go to the store. I decided I'd go out of the way to go to Target, because let's be honest, Target is always a superior experience to shopping at other grocery stores. So I went shopping for basic necessities in a pair of jeans, and I feel exponentially better than I did yesterday.

For some reason, it felt spectacular to just bask in a sense of normalcy. We rode to the store with one of our favorite Spotify playlists going in the background, and for most of the trip, it felt like the world was normal again. Granted, there were people everywhere in masks and gloves, but it was as normal as it could be given the current state of the world.

So, my unsolicited piece of advice for today in quarantine is to get dressed, and make yourself feel beautiful even if you have nowhere you need to go. Take a walk outside in your own yard, get some sunshine, and try to remember that everything going on right now is only temporary. It will end eventually, and life will return to normal. We will be able to get together again, we will be able to plan for exciting life events, and we will get that productivity and motivation back in our lives. It will happen. For now, we just have to take each day as it comes, and occasionally put on our favorite pair of jeans to remind ourselves that we are still badass, even in quarantine.
